Most of the cleaning that people tend to do for Passover involves water and other fluids. But some of the cleaning many people do does not involve wet substances at all. 


Dry cleaning is נִקּוּי יָבֵשׁ (nee-KOO-ee yah-VESH). ניקוי is the act of cleaning, whereas נִקָּיוֹן (nee-kah-YOHN) usually refers to cleanliness - the result of the ניקוי.



The simple word for clean is נָקִי (nah-KEE) for masculine objects and נְקִיָּה (neh-kee-YAH) for feminine objects. For example, בָּיִת נָקִי (BAH-yeet nah-KEE) is a clean house, while כּוֹס נְקִיָּה (kohs neh-kee-YAH) is a clean glass.
