It seems that heartache is a necessary part of truly loving, just like labor pains are a necessary part of giving birth to a beautiful baby.
An ache or a pain is a כְּאֵב (keh-EHV). I wrote an entry on this word a little over a year ago.
The Hebrew word for heart is לֵב (lev).
Thus heartache or, literally, ache of the heart, is כְּאֵב לֵב (keh-EHV lev).
Some say that such כאב לב around the fallen Temple and subsequent two-thousand-year exile has been a necessary fall in preparation for the greatest love in history that is yet to come.
On a different note...
Our Level 1 course, which begins today at 2:30 at AACI in Jerusalem, probably won't cause you כאב לב (the course just might help cure it). And we've still got some spots.
So if you're ready to kick off your Hebrew career with a three-week intensive (2-hrs-a-day) course, get in touch with us now!
