THANK YOU to those who have already helped!
One of the topics of the Torah portion read this week by Jews around the world is childbirth.
The Hebrew word for to give birth is לָלֶדֶת (lah-LEH-det). For example, הָאִשָּׁה יָלְדָה יַלְדָּה (hah-ee-SHAH yahl-DAH yahl-DAH) - The woman gave birth to a girl (the first ילדה is the verb, and the second is girl).
Though a man cannot give birth, he can beget or father a child. The Hebrew word for this is לְהוֹלִיד (leh-hoh-LEED). It's a "causative" הפעיל (heef-EEL) verb.
I think it appropriate, at this juncture, to introduce to you Arik Einstein's classic that will make you choke up... in a good way, עוּף גּוֹזָל (oof goh-ZAHL) - Fly Away, Little Bird. Check it out here.
שבת שלום וסוף שבוע נעים לכולם!
Shabbat Shalom and a pleasant weekend to all!
